MoCI & MCC Delegation Share Ideas on Trade Promotion

The Senior Management Team (SMT) at the Minister of Commerce & Industry (MoCI), on Thursday, September 25, 2025, held discussions with a four-member delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

The discussions, held at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, focused on several crucial issues, including promotion of effective trade through continued engagements between the two sides. 

Setting the pace for the discussions, the Minister of Commerce & Industry, Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh, said she was happy that America has considered Liberia among other countries for the MCC Compact.  She also said that MCC’s support to Liberia would help the country in the area of technology and trade, especially economic transformation through the participation of American investors.

“Our thanks and appreciation to the team- Liberia is happy once again to be selected for the MCC Compact and we promise to work along with you to achieve its goals for the development of Liberia,” she told the team

                                                                                                                                       

Buttressing Minister Dagoseh, the Deputy Minister for Commerce &Trade Services, Wilmot A. Reeves, appealed to the Millennium Challenge Corporation team to encourage US-based companies and investors to make use of Liberia’s friendly investment climate. Deputy Minister Reeves made specific reference to the need to decentralize the activities of the Liberia Business Registry (LBR).

For his part, the Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Tarnue Jeke, lauded the MCC delegation for the visit. Deputy Minister Jeke also appealed to the MCC team to help in building the capacities of Liberian-owned SMEs, specifically access to financial opportunities.

He added that with the empowerment of local SMEs and others who are involved in farming, there will be greater and better prospects for their growth and empowerment.

Also striking a point during the discussions, Deputy Commerce Minister for Industry, Andrew Paygar, called for support to the Monrovia Industrial Park (MIP), specifically in the areas of affordable electricity, road connectivity and the expansion of the MIP.  He said doing so would ensure that the area provides the requite services needed by the public, and for its outlook and output to conform to appreciable standards. 

Touching on other important issues, Mr. Paygar spoke about ongoing plans by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry to have a one-stop-shop through a digital system where investors and companies across the world will have easy access to do business in Liberia through the platform.

For her part, the head of the four-member MCC delegation, Jonnie Mohanan, expressed the MCC’s willingness to support the Liberian government and people.

She said Liberia would be considered for the second term of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in December this year. 

Madam Mohanan who is the MCC’s Managing Director for Africa noted that the team is in Liberia to work along with various government ministries and agencies in order to have an idea about challenges being experienced.  She said this will pave the way for the MCC to work along with them in realizing their goals.

The meeting between the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the four-member MCC delegation was characterized by fruitful exchange of ideas about future partnership in several other areas, including trade promotion, etc.
